Cocoamidopropyl Betaine is classified as an amphoteric surfactant, which represents the most rapidly advancing category of surfactants in recent years due to its superior mild properties compared to other amphoteric surfactants, making it highly effective in shampoo products.
Cocoamidopropyl Betaine is a novel foundational material for shampoo and hair care products that was developed in China during the 1990s.
Production process
Cocoamidopropyl Betaine is prepared by using coconut oil as raw material, condensation with N, N dimethylpropylenediamine to generate PKO and then quaternization with sodium chloroacetate (prepared from monochloroacetic acid and sodium carbonate).
Application
1. As an amphoteric surfactant, it exhibits excellent cleaning, foaming, conditioning properties and demonstrates good compatibility with anionic, cationic and non-ionic surfactants.
2. It has low irritation and mild performance while producing delicate and stable foam, making it suitable for use in shampoos, shower gels, facial cleansers etc., enhancing the softness of hair and skin.
3. When combined with an appropriate amount of anionic surfactants, Cocoamidopropyl Betaine exhibits significant thickening effects; it can also function as a conditioner, wetting agent or fungicide.
4. Its strong foaming effect makes it useful in oilfield exploitation where it acts as a viscosity reducer, oil displacement agent and foam agent by leveraging its surface activity for infiltration and penetration into oil mud to improve recovery rates.
Features
1. Excellent solubility and compatibility.
2. Outstanding foaming property along with significant thickening ability.
3. Low irritability coupled with bactericidal properties that significantly enhance the softness, conditioning capabilities and low temperature stability of washing products.
4. Good hard water resistance along with antistatic properties
Uses
Primarily used in medium to advanced shampoo formulations, body washes,
handsanitizers, facialcleansers, and household detergents; serves as a key ingredient in mild baby shampoo, babyfoambath, andbabyskincareproducts. Excellentsoftconditionerinhaircareandskincareformulationsandcanalsobeusedasdetergent, wettingagentthickeningagentantistaticagentandfungicide.
As is well known, the combination of anionic surfactants and cationic surfactants often leads to the formation of double salts and precipitation. The unique and highly significant application of Cocoamidopropyl Betaine lies in its ability to incorporate cationic surfactants, such as quaternary salts, into anionic surfactant formulations by pre-dissolving them in Cocoamidopropyl Betaine.
